Rita Bennett brings over seventeen years of direct experience in college admissions. For over half of her admissions career, Rita had responsibility for college enrollments. She has literally read thousands of student applications, and counseled thousands of prospective students. She held the position of admissions director at both Emory University's Graduate Division of Biomedical Sciences in Atlanta GA and at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison NJ. She has also held the positions of Assistant Director of Admissions at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and Admissions Counselor at both the University of California, Riverside CA and at Tulane University in New Orleans LA.
As admissions director, she worked with faculty and staff to determine admissions guidelines, evaluate qualifications of prospective students, conduct college admissions interviews, advised students and parents of their chances of admissions, and trained and developed others as admissions professionals. She has visited and worked with public, private, and Christian based high schools all over the country, established strong working relationships with high school counselors, school administrators, and teachers, and has worked with students of varying academic strengths and career goals. Currently, Rita serves as a Professional Admissions Consultant for a non-profit organization in Atlanta, where she conducts admissions counseling seminars and provides mock interviews, high school planning, and information on preparing competitive college applications. She is director of the admissions consulting company, The College Portfolio.
On a personal note, Rita has four children, three of whom have recently undertaken the college application process, and one who will go through the admissions application process in the next few years. She has experienced academic talents on both ends of the spectrum, from a national merit finalist, AP scholar, and athlete, to a child whose college admission required more research and involvement in order to find the right college program.
The admissions process is a daunting task---even for the most experienced, strategically prepared parent. Rita developed the College Admissions Calculator to assist parents in taking control of the admissions process, and it is her mission to give each parent and student the confidence needed to make informed, proactive college decisions.
Rita holds a bachelors degree in Higher Education Administration from Cornell University, in Ithaca, NY, and she has completed additional graduate work at Tulane University, in New Orleans, LA.
